For Immediate Release:

Hong Kong, 4 March 2011 – DotAsia Organisation is proud to announce its new venture in Macao to support the Macao government in the operation of the “.MO” top-level-domain. DotAsia formed a joint venture with a local conglomerate in Macao to create HNET Asia (http://www.hnet.asia), which entered into a contract with the Macao government on 25 February 2011, to assume the operations of the “.MO” registry beginning March 12, 2011.

“As an organization with a core mandate to promote Internet development and adoption in Asia, DotAsia is excited to work with the Macao government to modernize the .MO top-level-domain registry,” said Edmon Chung, CEO of DotAsia, “We look forward to operating the .MO domain and serving the industry in Macao, as well as to bring our experience and expertise to develop .MO into a global success.”

With the successful international launches of the “.ME” domain for Montenegro and “.CO” domain for Columbia, the development of the “.MO” domain is destined to become a highly anticipated event for the global Internet community. Riding on the rapidly growing travel industry in Asia and around the world, Macao has grown tremendously as a tourism destination. The casino industry in Macao has out grown Las Vegas in recent years in terms of total revenues and bets placed. These translate into growing traffic to the Macao Internet domain for tourist information, restaurants, hotels, which in turn lead to strong growth in e-commerce, online ad spending and much more.

In advancing the “.MO” registry, DotAsia will also be contributing to the development of the local industry in Macao, as well as to deploy Chinese domain name (including at the Top-Level), DNSSEC and other capabilities for the registry. Beyond the training of local engineers, DotAsia has also brought together a team of international experts to ensure not only a smooth migration of the technical systems, but also to propel the “.MO” domain into a globally recognizable ccTLD for Macao and the global Internet community.
